Artist Bio: Sharayah Sheldon

Sharayah Sheldon worked in the Milwaukee Public School system for thirty years as a high school counselor. She was the first in her family to graduate from high school and college, and she knew that education was her freedom. She holds a doctorate in philosophy: religious counseling/comparative religions, which she feels was an integral part of being a high school counselor. Unfortunately, a moped accident in 2006 forced her to leave her position at MPS, however, it gave her the opportunity to take on beading full time.

She is mostly self-taught but has taken classes over the years from respected beading artists Laura McCabe, Marcia DeCoster, and Carol Cycher. Her favorite beading activity is unique off-loom stitching namely right-angle weave.

Her inspiration comes from the Lord, riding her retro Italian moped, nature, fashion, playing the clarinet and the soprano sax. She is actively involved with the political scene on a local, state and nation wide level.
